The Chainsaw Kit Guy

Welcome, let's talk chainsaw type stuff. I like to build them. I bet you would too, and I would like to give you the opportunity to see and share in the experience and see if you might like it as well. I find it an interesting journey and a lot of fun at the end. An interesting aspect is the kits are brand new parts so you can build it in a comfortable environment. I will present some material here to get you started. Like what I used, replaced, had trouble with, liked, disliked, parts numbers, tools, etc. Plus, you can find step by step videos showing you how to do it yourself on my YouTube channel http://youtube.com/c/the1chainsawguy and posting on Instagram as the1chainsawguy and other places soon as soon as I get the hang of it...posting. You can message me on both if needed. I will update this website at least twice a month so it will be fresh.

Blue kits are the same as the orange gray kits, they assemble same, just blue plastic.

You start with a box of parts............................................you build............................................and then you have a real iconic MS660 Chainsaw Copy!

Here's proof of the first builds outcome :-)

Currently you can get complete chainsaw build kits in these sizes:

Each with a Chrome plated cylinder. Old school. Very capable.

  • MS180
  • MS200t
  • MS250
  • MS360
  • MS361
  • MS380
  • MS440
  • MS660
  • 070 that with a cylinder change out can become a 090, a very large chainsaw. Both are quite large.

The build videos I do are geared towards someone who wants to see what it actually takes to build one and see the process in total. The first videos I watched left me with a lot of unanswered questions. Like how did he do that? So I made the videos to fill that void. I have a mentor that has an awfully lot of patience and is super experienced. So what I have learned was not pass down, it's straight up factory insight. The guy that has never done more than put his lawn equipment in his car and take it to someone to have it fixed, that same guy, can buy a kit and watch the videos and complete the saw and benefit from that experience and knowledge. The result, a saw that runs and will provide a useful life. The most exciting part, you are no longer in the dark. You can make that small engine run and you can do things that 70% of the technicians have never done, like assemble a case. Its just a rare event for them but its our first step. It gets more exciting each step and each kit. It's hobby crack!

Do you work with wood? Would you like to have a source for wood? Harvest your own? Carving? Bowl making? We will do chainsaw milling, that will produce that wood source. Lots of things can come from this. Stay tuned.

I replaced my jet because this could be used for milling and I think the jets they use are too small. The recommendation for other situations for instance if you are having trouble adjusting the screws. The rule is time to rejet is if your carb is out of its optimal adjustment range. Which I believe is 7/8-1 3/4 or 1 1/2 out. I like 7/8-1 1/4. They have many jet sizes available. This is my favorite AM carb. I have changed mine to a Walbro WJ-76. I decided I wanted the entire fuel circuit to be OEM more on exactly what I did later in the pages

The MS660 is the most popular kit and its a long ride over here so I complied a packing list so when you get you kit you can cut and paste the list and print it so you can determine what is missing. There are individual part numbers in the list for the recoil starter part as well as the individual parts. You should expect to get a complete one, but if you don't you have the part numbers here that comprise it as well so you can help yourself. I am putting this on the homepage.
